Wi-Fi Connected but No Internet: What to Check

When a device says it is connected to Wi-Fi but websites do not load, the wireless connection may be working while the internet connection is not.

Check another website and another device

A single failed website is different from the entire connection being down. Test multiple sites and at least one other device.

Look at the modem and router

Unusual red or amber lights can indicate the modem lost service or the router did not receive a valid internet connection.

Restart modem before router

Power down both. Start the modem first and wait until it is online, then start the router.

Forget and rejoin the network

If only one device is affected, remove the saved Wi-Fi network and reconnect with the correct password.

Do not factory reset immediately

A factory reset can erase ISP, Wi-Fi, mesh and custom settings. Use it only when you know how the network is configured.
