TECH SUPPORT NYC GUIDE

What to Do If You Clicked a Phishing Link

Clicking a phishing link does not always mean an account is compromised, but entering a password, payment information or installing software raises the risk significantly.

Stop interacting with the page

Close the page. Do not download anything else and do not continue entering information.

Change any password you entered

Go directly to the real provider website and change the password. If that password was reused, change it elsewhere too.

Review account sessions and MFA

Sign out unknown sessions and make sure recovery information has not been changed.

Scan for unwanted software

If you downloaded or installed something, check the system with trusted security tools and remove suspicious applications.

Call your bank if financial information was entered

Use the number on the back of your card or the bank’s official website, not a number from the suspicious message.
